Bares for rarities: pop singer Vanessa Mai faces the junk professionals

Prominent visit to "Bares for Rares": Pop star Vanessa Mai had her mother-in-law with her family heirloom in tow.

In the XXL version of "Bares for Rares", junk godfather Horst Lichter (58) invited candidates, experts and a true pop star to visit Drachenburg Castle in Königswinter. In the special edition of the popular format, singer Vanessa Mai (28, "Forever") also had a supposed gem in tow.

"Our tactic: we don't have any!" Laughed Mai when she and her mother-in-law Christa Vogel presented a brooch. Although set with numerous gemstones, the two did not want to part with the family heirloom with a heavy heart – provided the price is right, of course. They had 1,400 euros in mind, expert Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel had even better news: The brooch could easily get you up to 2,200 euros.

And that’s not enough good customer for the duo. A little later, all six junk professionals took a great liking to the piece and so they drove the price far above the estimated value. In the end, the brooch changed hands for 3,100 euros, despite Mai's bad poker face.
