Hollywood’s favorite film psycho and star of the moment: This is how “Saltburn” mime Barry Keoghan’s journey has been so far.
He slurps the bathwater (including sperm) of his crush Felix, penetrates his grave and finally dances naked through his ultra-rich friend’s castle. Barry Keoghan (31) became a star with his role as the underdog Oliver, who sneaks into an aristocratic family. “Saltburn” has become a cult film since it debuted on Amazon Prime shortly before Christmas. Thanks to reaction videos on TikTok and hype on social media.
The role of the newcomer in “Saltburn” also reflects a little bit the life of Barry Keoghan. The Irishman grew up with his brother Eric in 13 different foster families, as he did in 2018 revealed in an interview. His mother died from drugs when he was twelve. She was only 30 years old.
Hollywood’s new go-to psycho
Not a good starting point on paper, but Keoghan didn’t let it get him down. He used his background as “ammunition,” as he once said. He got into acting by chance when he saw a casting notice for the gangster film “Between the Canals.” After his debut, he studied acting in Dublin. According to his own statement, he could barely afford the bus ticket to get to school.
The breakthrough came in 2017. Barry Keoghan played in Christopher Nolan’s (53) “Dunkirk” and alongside Colin Farrell (47) in “Killing of a Sacred Deer”. In it he embodied a similar character to the one in “Saltburn”: a dubious young man who destroys a strange family from the inside.
From then on, the man with the unmistakable physiognomy was the new model psycho in Hollywood. In “The Batman” he had a mini-appearance as the Joker – with the prospect of a larger role in the future of the franchise. He received his first Oscar nomination last year for his performance as a “village idiot” in “The Banshees of Inisherin”, again alongside his fatherly friend Colin Farrell. Before filming, he almost lost an arm that was infected by flesh-eating bacteria.
Separated from girlfriend – Is he dating a singer?
A lot has also changed in his private life recently for the amateur boxer. He and his partner Alyson Kierans recently separated. According to The Sun Keoghan’s dissolute life is said to have been partly to blame. The actor has been in a relationship with the dental technician since 2021. Their son Brando was born 15 months ago. The little one is of course named after Marlon Brando (1924-2004), one of the actor’s role models.
Barry Keoghan is currently rumored to be dating Sabrina Carpenter (24). This is what “TMZ” speculates, among others. The singer and actress is part of megastar Taylor Swift’s (34) inner circle and went on tour with her. Barry Keoghan seems to have finally arrived in a new world.
