Baseball – “Celts” with oldie Bryan back in the league routine!

The Carinthian Celts are contesting their second season in the 2nd Bundesliga this year after being re-established. “Clubbers” legend Mark Bryan (72) will also be there.

Baseball in Carinthia is coming back to life! After a ten-year break, the Carinthian Celts have been back in the 2nd Bundesliga since last season. “We re-established the team because we want to re-establish the sport,” says chairman Stefan Avar. The roots of the club go back to the Carinthian Clubbers, who were founded in 1993, but then had to stop playing because there was no longer a home available.

“The core from back then is there again today. We also have some newcomers, ”says Avar. The veteran and founding member Mark Bryan is still active in sports – at 72 … (!) Years. The US-American is still on the pitch today, benefiting above all from his good punching technique.

In the 2nd Bundesliga there were two away defeats (2:19, 8:27) in Wels at the beginning of May. The first home game since 2013 should have taken place last weekend. The new home place in the Khevenhüller barracks was closed for a short time. “We had to cancel, we will try again in July,” said Avar. Until then, the 17 players will train on the former SC Ulrichsberg field in St. Peter am Bichl. On Saturday you have to go away again – opponents are the Graz Dirty Sox!
