(sda) Two days after the 3-0 home win over Lausanne-Sport, FC Basel are parting ways with head coach Patrick Framework – because of the unsatisfactory overall development of the first team and a lack of clear prospects. Guillermo Abascal will lead the team on an interim basis until the end of the season, with Marco Walker as his new assistant.

The 52-year-old frame took over FC Basel in April 2021, succeeding the dismissed Ciriaco Sforza. Frame almost became an FCB coach in 2019, when he was still working at FC Aarau. However, the commitment failed due to the veto of the then majority shareholder Bernhard Burgener.

Speculations about a dismissal of Patrick framework already existed last December. Club owner David Degen and CEO Dani Büchi made little effort to persuade frames. It gave the impression that nowhere was the frame’s lobby as small as in the club’s leadership.

Already in the winter break different names for the successor frame circulated, such as the former Hoffenheim coach Alfred Schreuder or Thomas Letsch, who currently works at Vitesse Arnhem. Finally, the contract with the framework was extended at the end of December until summer 2023.

Since the contract was extended during the winter break, Patrick Framework has not implemented the requirements of the board of directors and the club management clearly enough, FC Basel explains the decision. With the change of coach, FCB want to give another impetus in this early phase of the second half of the season.

FC Basel is currently in third place in the Super League, 10 points behind leader Zurich. Next Sunday Basel will meet FCZ away at 4.30 p.m.

More to come. . .
