Pascal Loretz has been guarding the Lucerne goal since the beginning of February. The 19-year-old hasn’t had to cope with a championship defeat – until now. The FCL lost 1-0 to Basel in the 23rd round of the Super League in front of their own team.
While this mini-series came to an end for Loretz, another continues. Although the talent has already conceded 5 goals in his appearances, he has not yet been defeated from the game. Also because Hugo Novoa’s supposed 2-0 lead was taken back shortly before the end because of a foul.
FCL engaged but not dangerous
It was a penalty that decided the game. Loretz himself was only able to stop Andi Zeqiri, who had broken through, after half an hour. FCB captain Fabian Frei turned the due penalty into his first goal of the season. For the “Bebbi” it was the 6th full success in Lucerne in a row, for the FCL the 5th goal in a row from a penalty.
Lucerne showed a committed game and held up well, but Mario Frick’s team rarely became compelling.

Sofyan Chader was also responsible for the fact that there was no real offensive firework. When he returned to the starting eleven after an injury break, the 22-year-old received two yellow cards within a short space of time and was sent off with fifteen minutes to go. Basel didn’t outdo themselves with offensive actions either, but thanks to the 1-0 cushion they didn’t have to do more and could even afford to rest Zeki Amdouni, who had been outstanding in the end, for 90 minutes.

For the FCL, the away game at Servette will continue in a week. Basel’s break is shorter: FCB hosts Slovan Bratislava in the round of 16 of the Conference League on Thursday. On Sunday, St. Gallen will then be guests in St. Jakob Park.
