Baseus 160W charger / cigarette lighter test: capable of powering both laptop, tablet and smartphone

If you spend time in the car, it’s essential to have a charger that can keep your devices’ batteries topped up.

The problem is that there are many cigarette lighter style chargers that promise far more than they can deliver.

I expect three things from a good car charger:

  • sufficient power, at least 100 W to charge my MacBook Pro.
  • the presence of three ports (two USB-C ports and one USB-A port) for maximum compatibility.
  • a model that does not overheat when pushed to its limits!

The Baseus 160W car charger delivers on all of these points. This car charger has these features:

  • USB-C1: 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/5A (100W Max).
  • USB-C2: 5V/3A, 9V/2.22A, 12V/2.5A, 15V/2A, 20V/1.5A (30W Max).
  • USB-A: 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 10V/2A, 12V/2.5A (30W Max).
  • a quality 1 meter, 100 W USB-C/USB-C cable is included.

On the front of the device there is a circular blue LED. When it turns on, it’s visible enough to let me know it’s working, but dim enough that it’s not distracting in the dark.

Each port can deliver the maximum power regardless of the load of the other ports, giving the car charger a maximum power of 160W.

100W power is enough to charge my MacBook Pro

The 100 W power is enough to charge my 16” MacBook Pro with M1 Pro processor (not at the maximum power of 140 W, but 100 W is more than enough when I’m on the move).

When it comes to temperature management, the unit stays below 50°C even when fully loaded.

It is a quality car charger that keeps all its promises, safely and reliably.
