BASF: Pioneer in large-scale ‘MOF’ production

(CercleFinance.com) – BASF announced yesterday that it had become the first company to produce metal-organic frameworks (MOF) on a production scale of several hundred tonnes per year.

‘MOFs’ offer a large capacity for carbon dioxide (CO2) storage, air dehumidification for ambient climate control and adsorption of methane, a greenhouse gas.

A first project was successfully completed on behalf of the Canadian provider of carbon capture and removal solutions, Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante).

The collaboration between BASF and Svante is thus expected to contribute to significantly reducing carbon emissions in various industrial sectors, including hydrogen, pulp and paper, cement, steel, aluminum and chemicals.

‘Today we have access to new business opportunities with a strong focus on sustainability, based on our MOF production capabilities […] which will bring our partners and their customers closer to their net zero emissions goals,” said Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President, Process Enablers at BASF.
