BASF: presents its new CO2 reducing catalyst

(CercleFinance.com) – BASF launches CircleStar, an innovative dehydration catalyst for processing renewable raw materials. This new catalyst achieves a selectivity of 99.5% for the conversion of ethanol to ethylene (E2E).

With an operating temperature more than 25°C lower than conventional processes, CircleStar can reduce the carbon footprint in the bioethylene value chain by more than 10% for products ranging from kerosene to plastics.

The advanced performance of this innovative catalyst is due to its unique star shape which maximizes the active geometric surface for the reaction.

The new geometry also improves mass transfer and extends catalyst life through an advantageous temperature and pressure drop profile.

“Our new CircleStar will help our customers dramatically increase production efficiency while reducing carbon emissions and supporting their net zero goals,” said Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President, Process Catalysts at BASF.
