Olympic hero Steve Kerr sends Donald Trump to bed

US national basketball coach Steve Kerr does not keep his political opinions to himself. The former teammate of Michael Jordan has a clear favorite in the presidential election campaign. The 58-year-old has a very special gesture for the former president.

After winning the gold medal with the USA at the Olympics in Paris, national basketball coach Steve Kerr has clearly positioned himself against presidential candidate Donald Trump. “I will help every day to get people out there and vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the next President and Vice President of the United States on November 5th,” Kerr said in a speech at the US Democratic Party Convention in Chicago, adding: “After the recent results and in the words of the great Stephen Curry, we can say goodnight to Donald Trump!”

The 58-year-old Kerr was referring to a gesture by Curry that the Golden State Warriors superstar had recently shown in the Olympic final in Paris. With his successful three-point shots, Curry decided the final against France (98:87) for the Americans and then laid his head on his folded hands to tell the fans: That’s it, you can go to sleep now. Kerr, who once became a multiple NBA champion himself alongside Michael Jordan, now imitated the gesture on the big stage.

Barack Obama is thrilled

Think about what our team of 12 Americans did in Paris. Rivalries were put aside to represent our country. Now imagine what we could achieve if all 330 million of us played on the same team,” Kerr said. “Not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans.” He called on his homeland to unite and also highlighted the qualities of Harris and Walz: “It’s what our country needs. Leadership, the right leadership. Not the kind that wants to divide us.”

Former US President Barack Obama shared the video of Kerr’s speech on his X-channel and thanked everyone for their support. “Thank you for bringing home gold for Team USA – and for your leadership at a crucial moment for our country,” Obama wrote.
