The Cameroonian star of the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid, has started administrative procedures to obtain French nationality and join the French basketball team, according to information from our colleagues at RMC Sport.
Four years ago, the Cameroonian pivot had already declared his interest in France, thus creating a controversy which ultimately did not succeed, but this time the situation seems to have changed. With the approach of the Paris Olympics in 2024, the top scorer of the NBA regular season with Philadelphia seems more determined than ever to join the Blues.
According to the same source, Joel Embiid “has even initiated administrative procedures in France” and “a stay in France would be planned by the end of June to finalize the file”.
If that were to happen, it would then be up to Vincent Collet, the tricolor coach, to decide, knowing that each national team can only integrate a naturalized player.
