Beaten Friday by Montenegro, the French basketball team rectified the situation by largely beating Hungary 81-40, Monday in Mouilleron-le-Captif (Vendée), during its last match of the first phase of qualification for the World-2023.
Deprived of some of their Olympic vice-champion executives in Tokyo, the Blues were surprised 70-69 in Podgorica by the Montenegrins, suffering their first setback in the race for the World Cup.
Maldon still shines
Vincent Collet’s men reacted perfectly against the Hungarians thanks in particular to the 15 points of the young Théo Maledon (21), the game’s top scorer, after his 16 points already against Montenegro.
The difference was made in the third quarter of the match, with an incredible 29-2 for France!
First in Group E and already qualified for the second round before this match, the Blues had to finish with a success, however, the points from the first round being retained in the second which will begin at the end of August.
