Batik look: Now it's back in fashion

In the late 90s, stars such as Beyoncé Knowles (38, "Single Ladies") and their bandmates from Destiny's Child and Justin Timberlake (39, "SexyBack"), who had early successes with the boys from * NSYNC, wore it. More than 20 years later, the batik look is now making a comeback – also in the wardrobes of the stars. The most recent example: singer Dua Lipa (24, "Don't Start Now"), who made herself comfortable in a colorful sweatshirt during the corona lockdown.

"Do PR work at midnight" can be read alongside a snapshot of the 24-year-old on her Instagram profile. On it you can see: the British woman with red-black colored hair and an oversized sweater in batik style. According to "Vogue", Dua Lipa's trendy sweatshirt comes from a collection of the MadHappy brand, which is based in Los Angeles and is currently experiencing a real hype.

Gigi Hadid already wore the trend in 2019

In addition to the singer, other celebrities have rediscovered the batik look for themselves – including model Gigi Hadid (25). The sister of Dua Lipa's friend Anwar (20) was already wearing a striking batik vest at the annual Coachella Music Festival in 2019. She also posted the evidence photos for her appearance on Instagram. Other stars who were also seen in colorful patterns that were created using the textile dyeing process from Indonesia are Jennifer Lopez (50), Irina Shayk (34) and Justin Bieber (26).

Combine with plain clothing

But how do you actually wear the look? It is important that the garment in the batik style is the focus. Everything else about the outfit should be kept simple and minimalistic. If you want a very individual style, you can design your clothes yourself with the trendy dyeing technique – and thus take a leap back in time as a child.
