JJ Abrams-produced animated series Batman: Caped Crusader finds a new home on Amazon Prime Video after falling victim to HBO austerity measures.

  • Amazon Prime Video grabs HBO’s Batman: Caped Crusader.
  • Warner previously cut the budget for the animated series.
  • Producer JJ Abrams and his crew remain on board.

Batman: Caped Crusader was announced for 2021. After that, it was very quiet about the series until it ended up on Warner’s strike list, which, for example, also fell victim to the “Batgirl” movie last summer. Now Amazon Prime Video is reviving the project, replacing HBO Max as a broadcast platform.

HBO will bury “Batman: Caped Crusader” in summer 2022, Amazon Prime Video will access it in spring 2023

Batman: Caped Crusader was based on the 90s cult series Batman: The Animated Series. When the new series was first announced in 2021, producers JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm stated that the noir character of the original animated series should be retained and that the psychology of the characters should be delved even deeper.

Amazon Prime Video outperforms Netflix and Apple TV+

The producers responsible stayed on the ball for their project even after HBO ended and, it seems, were now even spoiled for choice as to which streaming provider to choose. According to media reports, Amazon Prime Video won the “Batman: Caped Crusader” competition against, as expected, strong competition from Netflix and Apple TV+.

However, Amazon has not yet announced when the series will start. The fact that at least two seasons will be released is generally considered to be certain.
