Batman is cult, also in the gaming world: In this article we present you the best order of play for Batman games. The Black Knight is one of the most recognizable and popular characters in the comic world. Over the years we’ve gotten some fantastic games featuring our hero.
Ultimately, the Batman games have two major series to choose from, namely the Arkham series and the LEGO series. Both series enjoy a high reputation in the gaming world and still play insanely well. With the last part of the Arkham series, this series of games ended, but with “Gotham KnightsThe studio is launching a sequel series. New heroes are the focus here. Batman: The Order of the Games
The two largest series, the Arkham and the LEGO series, are hanging content not together. So you can tackle each game series independently and don’t have to play both together.
Batman LEGO series
The order for the LEGO games is quite simple:
- LEGO Batman (2008)
- LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (2012): Batman gets a lot of support from other heroes from the DC Universe. Together they save Gotham City from the bad guys.
- LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014): The plot follows directly from the second part, in which a new task for Batman clearly emerged at the end: the destructive one Brainiac must be stopped. This last part is therefore set outside of Gotham City, and there are more and more heroes.

Batman Arkham series
The order for the Arkham series games is a little less obvious. Not every part is necessary to understand the story, as only three of the games were developed by Studio Rocksteady. These three games tie right into each other, while the others are more like extensions. We recommend this order:
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) [Hauptreihe]: This game ties almost seamlessly to the movie “Batman – The Dark Knight”.
- Batman: Arkham City (2010) [Hauptreihe]: In the second part we accompany Batman on his detective quest for the villains of Gotham City.
- Batman: Arkham Origins (2013): Prequels. The background story is told here: Batman is still young and meets Joker and Co for the very first time.
- Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (2013)
- Batman: Arkham Knight (2015) [Hauptreihe]: This part with many new features ends the series. Danger, Spoiler: Batman is eventually unmasked and revealed to be Bruce Wayne, initiating the “Knightfall Protocol” and dying.
- Batman: Arkham VR (2016): Step into the shoes of Batman in this exclusive VR game for PlayStation VR.
The first two parts of the main series, “Arkham Asylum” and “Arkham City”, were additionally released in 2016 as remakes re-released but under the title Batman: Return to Arkham.
