Batman: we tested the new immersive escape game and fought the Joker!

On September 7, AlloCiné had the chance to test a new Parisian escape game built around the Batman universe. We’ll take you with us, heading to Gotham City.

Immersive Escape Rooms are still popular. These trendy games stand out from the classic format in which the player has 60 minutes to escape from a room by solving a string of puzzles. In the immersive version, he moves in a much larger area and comes into contact with characters (actors) who spice up his experience.

It is in this second category that Batman Escape is placed, imagined by a company specializing in the genre, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Located in the old La Villette shopping center (Vill’up), this new space immerses you in the world of DC. When we arrive there, to test one of the three proposed scenarios, we are amazed by the decoration.

Harley Quinn’s sidecar motorcycle

There are nods to Batman of course, but not only that: from the Gotham City gazette to the real/fake penguin surrounded by gold bars, including the tags left by the Joker and his team and even the motorcycle side -because of Harley Quinn, there is something for fans and not-so-fans. Even the cocktails offered by the bar are in keeping with the theme: we were able to taste the delicious Poison Ivy (and we survived!), a nod to one of the Dark Knight’s most famous enemies.

A very Jokerian decor

Batman Escape has almost 3000 m2 of surface area, making it the largest immersive Escape Game in France. When we attend the opening night, we are asked to choose between two scenarios: the Batcave and the Joker. We let ourselves be tempted by the latter…

Welcome to Arkham Asylum

The pitch is simple: we are a team made up of journalists and we have the chance to meet the Joker exclusively. Armed with our accreditations and a cell phone, we set off on the adventure. First stop: Gotham City subway, direction Arkham.

Head to the insane asylum…

We will not reveal the content of this experience which lasts on average 70 minutes, in order to keep the surprise. But what strikes you first is the quality and attention to detail of the decorations. We believe it. The first step is done together with the other groups present (there are a maximum of four per session, or 24 people). We have to stick together and work together to get out of a first situation. Not easy when you don’t know the people in front of you.

In the second part, you will compete with them. A Harley Quinn (impressive!) offers us a series of little games to play within a given time: it’s original, it’s funny and we had a good time! And to top it all off, we won!

In the third and final part of the escape game, all the teams must work together to foil the Joker’s final plan. Small negative point: you all have to move at the same pace and sometimes wait for the players next to you to finish their task before moving on to the next one. This can quickly turn sour and cacophonous if no one listens. Luckily for us, all the puzzles were solved on time. After more than an hour of experience in the Joker’s lair, we left there with a smile on our faces.
