Battlegrounds: Patch Note 22.2, January 25, 2022

Battlegrounds continue to evolve with a new patch scheduled for Divided in Alterac Valley. With patch 22.2, the Battlegrounds mode completely overhauls its basic mechanics with the addition of companions. But new heroes are also added to the list to be able to challenge the defending champions.

Companions, the new allies of heroes

Each character in Battlegrounds has their own minion, which they can summon once their “companion-meter” bar is completed. The latter has two charges, and is filled when you inflict damage, remove a divine shield or finish in a draw. At the first load reached, a first copy of the companion is offered. By filling it a second time, the other two copies come into play.

Hero Changes

For Battlegrounds Patch 22.2, Alexstrasza, Ysera, and Goerge the Fallen are getting a small change. Bru’kan, Drek’Thar, Canndar Stormpike and Tavish Stormpike invite themselves into the tavern. They are available in advance for Tavern Ticket owners, but will be available to everyone on February 8. Finally, if not removed, Kael’thas, SIlas Darkmoon, and Chenvaa’la are temporarily disabled.

• Modified Heroes –
  • alexstrasza
    • The chances of obtaining level 6 Dragons are no longer reduced
  • ysera
    • Bob’s Tavern is no longer considered refreshed at the start of a turn if no new minions are added
  • George the Fallen
    • His Hero Power now reads: “Give Divine Shield to a minion”

• New Heroes –
  • Bru’kan
    • Adopt the elements – Cost: 0 gold
      • Choose an item. Beginning of the fight: calls on this element
        • Summon Fire – Start of Combat: Double the ATK of your leftmost minion
        • Summon Lightning – Start of Combat: Deal 1 damage to 5 random enemy minions
        • Summon Earth – Start of Combat: Grants 4 friendly minions “Deathrattle: Summon Elemental 1/1”
        • Invocation of Water – Start of the fight: gives +3 HP and Taunt to your rightmost minion
    • Drek’Thar
      • Lead the Frostwolves – Cost: 0 gold
        • Choose an allied minion. It copies the ATK of your minion with the highest ATK for the next fight only
    • Vanndar Stormpike
      • Lead the Stormpikes – Cost: 0 gold
        • Choose an allied minion. It copies the HP of your minion with the highest HP for the next fight only
    • Tavish Stormpike
      • fine shooter – Cost: 0 gold
        • Play! Start of the fight: inflicts 1 point of damage to your target. (Getting better with every turn!)
          • Aim left! – Passive effect. Start of the fight: inflict 1 point of damage on the enemy’s leftmost minion
          • Aim low! – Passive effect. Start of the fight: inflicts 1 point of damage to the enemy minion with the lowest HP
          • Aim high! – Passive effect. Start of the fight: inflicts 1 point of damage to the enemy minion with the highest HP
          • Aim right! – Passive effect. Start of the fight: inflict 1 point of damage to the rightmost enemy minion

Minion Changes

The changes are light for minions. Only one daemon is affected by this patch, and only concerns a clarification of its text.

• Modified Servant –
  • Annihilated Warmaster
    • Text now reads: “Battlecry: Gain +1 HP for each HP your hero is missing”

How should patch 22.2 impact the HS Battlegrounds meta?

With this patch, the Battlegrounds meta will completely change. Each hero has a new unique servant, you will have to learn to play with it in order to use its full potential. The strongest heroes at the moment risk falling from their throne, while some should recover.
