Baumgart to the “childhood club”?
HSV is negotiating with the fans’ desired solution

Is Steffen Baumgart returning to the north? According to consistent media reports, Hamburger SV has started negotiations with the former coach of 1. FC Cologne in the search for a successor to Tim Walter. According to information from the “Hamburger Abendblatt” and the “Hamburger Morgenpost”, HSV sports director Jonas Boldt contacted Baumgart on Sunday and there could also be a quick decision.
Baumgart, a native of Rostock, left Cologne after two and a half years by mutual agreement; the decision was made shortly before Christmas. Since then, the ex-professional has repeatedly been associated with HSV, as the 52-year-old is a fan of the traditional club and once called it his “childhood club”. Baumgart is one of the preferred candidates among large parts of the second division fan scene.
Baumgart’s contract with FC has already been terminated; it would not cost any transfer fee. In addition to Baumgart, the names of Lukas Kwasniok (SC Paderborn) as well as Jon Dahl Tomasson (unemployed) and Johannes Hoff Thorup (FC Nordsjaelland) are also traded in Hamburg.
Walter was fired in Hamburg a week ago, and in the 2-2 draw at Hansa Rostock at the weekend, his former assistant Merlin Polzin sat on the bench as interim coach. Boldt did not want to publicly commit to the coaching question during the Rostock game.
