Bayer: heavy loss on impairments in the 2nd quarter


(CercleFinance.com) – Bayer sells 1% to Frankfurt after the publication of a net loss of 1.89 billion euros for the second quarter of 2023, weighed down by losses on impairments of 2.3 billion, as well as ‘core’ EPS down 36.8% to 1.22 euros.

The German group saw its EBITDA before exceptional items contract by 24.5% to 2.53 billion euros, for a turnover of just over 11 billion, down 8.2% excluding effects exchange rates and scope.

Also on an organic basis, agrochemicals sales fell by 18.5%, mainly due to a sharp drop in glyphosate volumes and prices, while pharmaceuticals sales remained stable and consumer healthcare increased by 5.4%.

Bayer confirms its annual objectives (lowered in July) excluding currency effects of sales between 48.5 and 49.5 billion euros, EBITDA before exceptional items between 11.3 and 11.8 billion , as well as core EPS between 6.20 and 6.40 euros.
