Nagelsmann apparently rejects a job at Tottenham

No sooner has Julian Nagelsmann been released than rumors sprout as to which club wants to sign him next. Tottenham Hotspur is the hottest candidate. But the coach apparently makes a different decision for the next few weeks.

According to a media report, Julian Nagelsmann, who was only released a few days ago from record champions FC Bayern Munich, will not become a coach at Tottenham Hotspur. According to the “Bild” newspaper, immediate entry into the London club from the Premier League is not an option for Nagelsmann, although the coach was Tottenham’s preferred candidate according to English media reports.

The Times reported that the north Londoners had already contacted Nagelsmann. Sky also reported that Tottenham is “definitely” interested in Nagelsmann, and a “loose request” from London is said to have already been made that Nagelsmann would start the job directly, but it was “unlikely”.

Instead, the coach wanted to process his departure in Munich first and “let it sink in”. It is the first time that the 35-year-old has been released. Nagelsmann’s engagements at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2016 to 2019) and RB Leipzig (2019 to 2021) only ended due to interest from other clubs. He is also being talked about as a potential successor to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

According to “Bild”, Nagelsmann’s career plan originally envisaged “an interim stop” from summer 2021 at a top club that is not one of the absolute title contenders in the Champions League. Tottenham is said to have been an option, but the opportunity to try your luck in Munich probably changed Nagelsmann’s plan.

After the separation from their previous coach Antonio Conte, the Spurs promoted his assistant coach Cristian Stellini to head coach until the end of the season. Still, some names are traded in England, including former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner should also be a candidate.

Shortly before his release, Conte had massively attacked his players and the club in public. Tottenham’s professionals were “selfish” and played “without heart”, Conte blasphemed. The club “does not play for important things”, there is “no fire in their eyes” – but that is just the “story of Tottenham”, where they have been used to this condition for a long time.
