Be careful, these cheeses should not be eaten!

The government site Rappel Conso warns against the consumption of goat cheese from the La Ferme de la Prairie brand. These products are suspected of having been contaminated by bacteria dangerous to health.

Each day, the government website Rappel Conso informs consumers about products removed from the shelves for their dangerousness, such as fresh products whose ingestion can cause harmful effects on health. This week, for example, the platform alerted about natural yogurts, mussels sold in the fish section of supermarkets, or even cartons of milk from the Candia brand. This Friday, October 27, it’s the turn of several batches of goat cheese of the La Ferme de la Prairie brand to be excluded from sale.

Several types of cheese are in fact covered by the recall : faitselles, small fresh rounds, fresh salted, fresh ash, Selles-sur-cher AOP, pyramids, logs and logs. The batches concerned were renneted on October 9, 11 and 16, 2023 and their expiration date is October 21, 2023. These products were marketed between October 13 and 20. They were put on sale in the Parisian markets of St-Charles, Antwerp and Charonne, located respectively in the 15th, 9th and 20th arrondissements of the capital. These cheeses are suspected of having been contaminated by the toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga bacteria (also called E. coli STEC).

Watch out for the symptoms

According to the Rappel Conso website, these bacteria “can lead to the consumption of contaminated products in the week following adverse health effects as : “sometimes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting, accompanied or not by fever“. In 5 to 8% of cases, these symptoms can be accompanied “of severe kidney complicationsmainly in children. People who have eaten these cheeses and who have symptoms are encouraged to consult their doctor directly. Health authorities also recommend that children under 5 years old, pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised people not consume cheese made from raw milk, and instead opt for “cooked pressed cheeses (such as Emmental, Comté, etc.), processed spreadable cheeses and pasteurized milk cheeses”.
