Beach volleyball World Cup in Mexico – Three wins: Swiss women with a “sweep” to the end of the preliminary round – Sport

  • Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner and Anouk Vergé-Dépré/Joana Mäder won their preliminary group, Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré took second place.

Hüberli/Brunner were already qualified for the knockout phase before their final preliminary round game. The European champions won the tough battle for group victory against the Latvian Tina Graudina/Anastasija Samoilova 21:19, 23:25 and 16:14.

In the second set, Hüberli/Brunner ran after a small deficit for a long time and then left three match points unused. In the deciding set, the Swiss were 10:13 behind before winning 6 of the last 7 points.

Clear victory for Vergé-Dépré/Mäder

The third group game between Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Mäder against the Mexicans Atenas Gutierrez/Abril Flores was a one-sided affair. With 21:6, 21:15, the Swiss scored twice as many points as their opponents who played incorrectly.

With a total of 6-0 sets, the Swiss women, seeded number 13, clearly dominated their group.

Prestige success for Böbner/Vergé-Dépré

Anouk’s sister Zoé Vergé-Dépré also celebrated a great success alongside Esmée Böbner. The two defeated the previously unbeaten Dutch team Katja Stam/Raïsa Schoon with 21:19, 21:19.

Because the Dutch have a slightly better point ratio across all three group games, the two Swiss are in second place in the table.
