Beatings, humiliations – after the martyrdom of marriage, the 73-year-old stabbed man

She swore eternal loyalty to her husband – at the wedding 50 years ago. She endured beatings and humiliations and hid bruises. Separation was not part of their life plan. When the man (84) struck again, she no longer ducked away. The 73-year-old Viennese picked up the knife and stabbed. On Wednesday evening, she was sentenced to three years imprisonment at the Vienna Regional Court, one of which was unconditional.

“It was not a good marriage,” even admits the prosecutor in the trial for attempted murder. For 30 years, the defendant then says, she has beaten her husband again and again. And for no reason. Like many tortured and enslaved women, she does not blame the man directly for their suffering, but rather excuses him: “It was perhaps the move to a new apartment that bothered him. He then left that out on me. “

Once the injuries were so bad that the woman had to drive to the hospital. But she hid the real reason: “Back then he came to visit every day and made sure that I didn’t say anything wrong.”

The son also confirms that there must have been violence in the marriage: “My father treated my mother like a cleaning lady.” Often the arguments were about money. “He wanted to manage my mother’s inheritance. But that was my money, ”the woman defends herself.

On January 23, she went for a walk with the dog in the morning, then the 84-year-old attacked his wife again. “I was locked in the kitchen, I couldn’t leave. So I took the knife and stabbed it, ”says the defendant. The victim was stabbed in the stomach. The knife almost hit the heart.

The woman’s son has rented a small apartment for the future in freedom. Perhaps, she says, she will return to her husband one day: “I have sworn my eternal loyalty to him.” Eternal loyalty until death …

Found guilty of assault
The verdict: no attempted murder, three years imprisonment, one year of which is mandatory. The eight jurors unanimously denied the charges of attempted murder. The woman was found guilty of deliberate aggravated bodily harm. Both the prosecutor and the woman’s defense lawyer agreed with the decision. The judgment is then final.
