Will Sir Paul McCartney soon become a lord? Apparently, people are thinking about giving the Beatles musician this honor for his 80th birthday.

Beatles star Paul McCartney (79) has been able to call himself Sir since 1997 – at that time he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II (95) herself (“Knight Bachelor”). Around 25 years later and on the occasion of his 80th birthday, which McCartney celebrates on June 18, 2022, he could apparently be given an even greater honor. As the British “The Sun” reportsthe plan is now to raise him to the rank of lord.

The reason given in the report is that his musical life’s work and his contribution to British culture should be duly acknowledged. Just five years ago, he was bestowed an order of nobility, of which, according to the report, there are currently only 61 living dignitaries: the Order of the Companions of Honor.

The so-called peerage that now awaits him is an even rarer celebrity award. Among the few stars who could be happy about it are composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (73), actor Richard Attenborough (1923-2014) and his colleague Laurence Olivier (1907-1989).

Still full of energy

McCartney is bursting with energy despite his age, as his planned participation in the Glastonbury Festival proves. He is scheduled to headline there on June 25th, exactly one week after his 80th birthday. Then maybe even as Lord McCartney…
