According to its self-description, the AfD wants to restore order in Germany. Some of the party’s politicians, however, don’t take the order in the Bundestag very seriously. More than 60 percent of all calls for order are made by the party.

AfD members received by far the most calls to order in the Bundestag in the current legislative period. While politicians from the other factions have so far received calls to order in the low single-digit range, those from the AfD have been called to order more than 30 times, as can be seen from the relevant minutes. Other parties only received a sixth of this number or less. The “Bild” newspaper first reported on this.

The number of all calls for order from the previous legislative period has already been reached: According to an evaluation by the Bundestag, there have been 50 valid calls for order since the 2021 election. However, the Bundestag is currently larger than ever before. The deputy chairwoman of the AfD parliamentary group, Beatrix von Storch, received a call to order most often – a total of ten times. Storch’s party colleague Stephan Brandner follows in second place with seven calls for order. The non-affiliated AfD politician Matthias Helferich has also been repeatedly warned to keep order.

As “Bild” further writes, left-wing MP Jan Korte received three calls to order. The SPD MPs Dietmar Nietan and Christian Petry as well as the AfD politician Frank Rinck were each warned twice. CDU MP Christoph de Vries and Green MP Jürgen Trittin each received a call to order. In the FDP parliamentary group, Konstantin Kuhle received the only reprimand so far this electoral period.

Before the Bundestag’s summer break, Bundestag President Bärbel Bas called for respect in political debates. “You can tell that the language has become hardened,” Bas said at the time. “But we need to treat each other fairly and respectfully.”
