An even complexion makes us look fresher and more well-groomed. But what to do if you tend to have large pores? These tips can help.

Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with an even, rosy complexion. Especially those who have large pores often suffer from an uneven complexion. The size of the pores is primarily determined by genetics, but the condition of the skin can contribute: those with oily skin tend to have enlarged pores. Environmental influences such as UV rays, lifestyle and the natural aging process are also evident in the form of enlarged pores. If you rely on the right care, you can ensure a finer complexion in the long term. These tips can help.

Find the right care

First things first: Large pores are not a sign of impurity. Rather, they are to be understood as small channels through which the body secretes sebum. Even with large-pored skin, it is sufficient to cleanse the face twice a day – in the morning and in the evening. Ideally with a pH-neutral cleaning gel. As far as subsequent care is concerned, creams with a high-fat texture should be avoided. Light fluids or moisturizing gels are better. And here we have another real miracle weapon against large pores:

Serums with retinol

The ingredient retinol is known to work against premature aging and acne by stimulating cell renewal. In addition, it should also have a particularly clearing effect on enlarged pores and optically reduce them. If you want the serum to be fully effective, you should open the pores before use. This works best with a facial steam bath. Caution: It is best to use before going to bed and apply sunscreen the next day!

Clarifying masks and scrubs

If you tend to have large pores, you should also use a deep-acting mask or peeling regularly (but not more than once a week). A cheap classic proves to be particularly effective: healing earth. But products rich in minerals with mud from the Dead Sea or with algae are also ideal for large pores, as they have an antibacterial effect and regulate sebum production. Tea tree oil, zinc, silicon and salicylic acid also have a sebum-regulating effect.

Laser treatment to reduce pores

If the pores are very pronounced, an even complexion can almost only be achieved with a laser treatment. The so-called fractional laser treatment is used here. In contrast to other procedures, the skin surface is not completely lasered, but only partially, which causes significantly less pain and skin irritation. The aim is to stimulate collagen production and the formation of new skin cells. As a result, the pores should be minimized and the complexion appear more even.

In the follow-up treatment of a laser treatment, what should actually be the norm applies: always apply sun protection! Anyone who does not have a sun protection factor in their day cream should use a separate sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Smoothing makeup

Lots of pore minimizers are available on the market, but they only hide enlarged pores visually. The polymers contained settle into the pore and thus prevent the light from refracting in the depression. Primers, the basis of every make-up and favorite of all professional make-up artists, have a similar effect. The general rule is: use make-up sparingly, especially on skin with large pores. Because the foundation often gets stuck in the pores and clogs them. Lighter textures, such as BB or CC creams, are therefore better.
