2020 was the year that nobody would have expected. From forest fires in Australia to the US elections to the corona crisis, which made us stay at home this year, everything was there. But we can take away one good thing from 2020. We stayed a lot in our four walls and had more time to care for our skin and hair. What beauty trends were at the top of Google's list this year? We'll tell you.
Most sought after in skin care
Well, we were forced to spend more time at home, but at least we could devote ourselves to extensive skin care. Right at the forefront: rich face masks made from ingredients that we find in our kitchen. Whether honey, potato peels or avocado – nobody said no to Diy face masks this year and we diligently googled for instructions.
Make-up must-haves
In the make-up world it was all or nothing this year. We either left our face completely alone or experimented with colorful looks. This year, many of us wanted to know how to highlight our facial features, as these are often lost in the zoom camera.
But this year we also read and felt sayings like "getting ready for nothing" or "full glam for my living room". Many searched for glamorous make-up looks on Instagram, Pinterest and on Google and then made them up. The most popular search terms were "glossy eyeshadow" and "pink lipstick".
Skincare routine
In terms of skin care, many of us turned our own apartment into a cosmetic studio. We looked for dos and don'ts in the care routine and analyzed the ingredients of products in order to optimize our care. The most popular were ingredients like vitamic C, retinol and niacinamide (a form of vitamin B).
Searches also showed that the focus for many beauty fans this year was on getting their eyebrows in shape at home. We googled the Instagram beauty trend "laminating eyebrows" or looked for ways to color our brows ourselves.
Hair trends
2020 was a real challenge for all girls with colored hair. Hair salons had to close their doors for several months during the year and so many of us became inventive and googled ways to dye our own hair. In addition, the right products were sought that would not turn a visit to the hairdresser at home into a disaster.
Care, care, care
Hair care was also at the top of our to-do list this year. The most important thing: hair masks with the extra care boost for our mane, because the hair should still look shiny and healthy despite working from home.
Easy-care haircuts that we could trim ourselves were the solution this year. Above all, the bob, usually worn chin-length, has become a trend hairstyle without much effort. We also looked for ways to braid or tie our hair off our face. Our best friend: The scrunchie as a recurring hair accessory from the 90s.
