Because he wanted to see grandma: – A ten-year-old told fairy tales about a bad mother

A single mother sits in the dock, broken and in tears. She is said to have beaten, abused and threatened her son for years. But the process at the regional court in St. Pölten was followed by a surprising turn of events: acquittal. The ten-year-old lied to be allowed to live with his grandmother.

There was a rough tone in the family. But years of child abuse through punches, pinching and threats? A 32-year-old woman from the Mostviertel was confronted with serious allegations of continued violence against her ten-year-old son at the regional court in St. Pölten. Her own child had made the allegations and involved the grandmother in his “plans”. In order to be able to live with his beloved grandmother, the boy invented a life of constant fear of abuse. Tense family relationships “Mom kept escalating,” the boy describes in court. But the inconsistencies and contradictions in his statements made both the youth welfare and those present at the court suspicious. Because there were no witnesses. Neither the ex-partner, nor the grandmother, nor the psychologist could provide evidence. A few hours before the trial, the ten-year-old claims he made it all up. Despite the acquittal, the 32-year-old left the court visibly broken.
