Is your small business experiencing the crisis? This time it may not be the fault of inflationbut rather your GPS!
Mapping apps have become very popular. Not content with replacing the good old GPS, which no longer leaves the glove box, they also replace the bulky directories. Indeed, for quite some time now, they have been providing useful information on businesses, businesses and other organizations, and allowing users to give their opinion and supplement the information already available.
However, everything is never perfect, and some traders unfortunately pay the price.
Thousands of dollars in losses
If you’ve been to the Sunshine Coast in Australia’s Queensland recently, you may have missed the opportunity to dine at Pum’s Kitchen. In fact, this restaurant was reported as permanently closed by Apple Maps for several weeks at the end of last year. But, in truth, this was not the case, since the famous Pum was indeed behind the stove during this period.
Chris Pyatt, her husband, told ABC News that he began to notice ” a sudden and drastic change in customer behavior towards the end of November and throughout December “. The cause was revealed to him when a restaurant regular called to ask why his restaurant had permanently closed its doors.
The repercussions seem considerable, since the drop in attendance is automatically accompanied by a drop in turnover. “ We saw a significant drop, of the order of $12,000 », explains Chris, or almost 7,300 euros at the time of writing the article.
A problem that would concern many traders
Unfortunately, the Pyatts’ troubles did not end there, because the apple firm was not very… cooperative. During the first discussions with Apple, the company’s employees told Chris that they could not assist him because he did not own any Apple devices. This turned out not to be true, as it was possible to open an Apple Business account from a web browser and then update the information about the restaurant.
But, even in the Internet age, things can be slow and laborious. Apple didn’t immediately add the new information about Pum’s Kitchen, and it took ABC News calling the company out for things to really move forward. Well, not quite, because Apple Maps started getting the location of the property wrong. A burlesque sequence which finally seems to be coming to an end, since a comparison between the data from the Apple application and those from Google Maps suggests that things are back to normal.
If Chris and Pum could have done without all this hassle, their adventure helped to highlight a problem which is perhaps not very isolated. Indeed, the couple was contacted by many other traders who had experienced similar setbacks. Information confirmed by Erica Mealy of the University of the Sunshine Coast, who discovered hundreds of posts on the subject on Apple forums, as well as on other platforms like Reddit and Quora.
