Because of discrimination lawsuit – Google wants to pay out plaintiffs $ 118 million – News

  • Google plans to pay employees $118 million to settle discrimination lawsuit.
  • The plaintiffs accuse the tech group of having paid them less wages than male colleagues because of their gender.
  • A judge has yet to approve the payment to the class members.

The $118 million will go to California workers who have joined the class action lawsuit.

The settlement also provides for an outside expert to review Google’s employment practices, according to a statement from plaintiffs’ attorneys over the weekend. The agreement will not come into effect until the competent judge approves it.

Google: «no admission of guilt»

In a statement in the Financial Times, Google emphasized that the settlement was not an admission of guilt. However, after five years of litigation, both sides were of the opinion that this was the best way. The trial for the lawsuit was scheduled for January next year.

In 2017, several female employees sued the tech company because women are said to have paid less than men in the same positions. The case was given class-action status on behalf of more than 15,000 women.
