La Chaux-de-Fonds in the canton of Neuchâtel receives support from the army because of the storm damage.
A week ago, a violent storm swept through the city. 4000 buildings were damaged.
Around 80 members of the army will take part in clearance and security work from Wednesday.
The army will use disaster aid, engineer troops and mountain specialists, as announced by the canton of Neuchâtel. The soldiers will be on duty in the clock metropolis until around August 11th. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the civil authorities mobilized on the ground.
It was the Neuchâtel Council of State who, in coordination with the authorities of La Chaux-de-Fonds, had requested the army’s help. In view of the return of many people from the holidays and the imminent start of school, the support had been requested, the army said. The heavy use of the canton’s funds is another reason.
The troops are to help clear the area around school buildings and streets. The population is to be protected from possible falling debris.
