Because of the pandemic & war – Purkersdorf has to wait for a new city station

The plans for the new construction of the train station in Purkersdorf are delayed. “Have to go back to the start,” says ÖBB.

Admittedly, the world looked different two years ago: At that time, the new construction of the train station in Purkersdorf – including all construction and time plans – was announced in large letters. A pandemic and a war in Europe later, however, there is apparently a lack of workers and raw materials. And in such a way that the new building was clearly postponed. Completion should not take place before 2029, instead of in 2024. Apparently, the only thing that is fixed is that the new city station should also be barrier-free in the future. It is remarkable that one has to say this at all in the 21st century. “Back to the start” Also with regard to the targeted costs of 10 million euros, one has to go back to the start, as the ÖBB emphasizes. And: So many projects are planned along the western route that some, like Purkersdorf, have to wait.
