Apple’s instant messaging, iMessage, is a proprietary service, and the brand has never tried to make things easier for its users, by offering a version adapted to Android. If your loved ones have a smartphone equipped with the Google operating system, you will have to go through the famous “green bubbles”, or the good old SMS.
In recent years, Google has pushed a new messaging technology, RCS, which bills itself as the successor to SMS, with the ability for users to share media like photos, videos, or GIFs in the same way. only on an email. Despite a communication campaign aimed at making Apple listen to reason, the Californian manufacturer did not want to know anything and is still reluctant today to support the RCS.
However, the Beeper software is there to make life more pleasant and simpler for users of these two services, but also of other messaging systems. This solution, available on Windows, Mac, but also Linux, Android and iOS, makes it possible to aggregate all of its chat services into a single interface.
One messaging to rule them all
Beeper indeed accepts many services, such as Instagram Direct, Discord or WhatsApp but also iMessage, and now Google Messages, with RCS support. The development team explains that support for this messaging protocol is still in beta, but solid enough for everyday use. Old conversation histories are missing today, and acknowledgments are not displayed in group conversations.
To connect to all of your services, you will need a computer and enter the identifiers of your various Apple, Google, WhatsApp accounts, etc. Then, the messages will be directly aggregated in the Beeper application, via Matrix, a open-source protocol serving as a bridge between the different services.
Beeper is a free service, with a Premium option offering unlimited connections to messaging services and a larger history of your conversations. Beeper is currently only available by invitation, and you can now register on the waiting list to receive your code in the coming weeks.
