Before Avatar 2, This Marvel Movie Already Offered Breathtaking Underwater Scenes

While Avatar 2 sweeps away everything in its path and Cameron’s film is acclaimed for its underwater scenes, Black Panther 2 reminds us through a making-of video that the teams did just as well.

Who is stronger between Avatar 2 and Black Panther 2? While James Cameron’s film sweeps away everything in its path by becoming the 4th biggest hit of all time, another blockbuster is making headlines today.

Marvel has just posted a making-of video of Wakanda Forever where the visual effects supervisor explains how the underwater scenes were shot.

A way to show that Ryan Coogler’s teams have also achieved technical feats to create the aquatic world of Talocan, where the people of Namor (Tenoch Huerta) live.

Like Kate Winslet who broke an apnea record to shoot her scene in Avatar 2, the actors of Wakanda Forever have also learned to hold their breath for long minutes.

Geoffrey Baumann tells us in particular how the scenes were shot twice (in and out of the water), in order to have the rendering that we see in the cinema.

Work on the light has also been carried out to make this underwater universe particularly real. If the CGI was logically used, a small part of Black Panther was actually filmed underwater.

And we can say that the result was there and that the theatrical experience was successful since Wakanda Forever was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category… alongside Avatar: The Way of the Water.

Avatar’s 3D: a revolution?
