Before the Ahsoka series, what should we see on Star Wars to be in focus?

Ahsoka Tano’s story is mostly set in animated works, including Rebels and The Clone Wars. With the upcoming arrival of the Ahsoka series, this is what it is recommended to see in priority to be in focus on the character.

How to Subscribe to Disney+ to Watch Star Wars Movies

Disney+ is available in France:

The new TV series Ahsoka will debut on Disney+ on August 23, 2023, with Rosario Dawson in the title role. If you are fond of Star Wars, you may already be completely up to date and there is probably nothing to teach you about this character. For the others, there are certainly episodes to catch up on, especially on the TV series side.

Since the airing of the series is near, it would be unreasonable to tell you, for example, to watch everything The Clone Wars. The anime series spans 7 seasons and has 133 episodes. Need to tighten. same for me Rebels or Tales of the Jedi. So here is a limited selection of what you should see (or rewatch) to be up to date on D-Day – all the episodes and films mentioned in this article are available on SVOD on Disney+.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

This is the first episode of the saga which tackles the clone wars head-on, a sequence during which the galaxy will be on fire and bloodshed. Ahsoka does not yet appear in the casting, but the scene is set. Above all, it allows us to focus on Anakin Skywalker, who has become a young man. We understand his psychology better. This is important, because he will be the future master… of Ahsoka.

The Clone Wars (the film)

It’s an animated film released in 2008, after the prelogy. Chronologically, it is nevertheless located between episodes II and III of the films. It’s a key feature, as it introduces Ahsoka Tano to the world of Star Wars. It is also a film that dives into this clone war. Episode II only showed the seeds of this widespread conflict.

The Clone Wars (series)

You probably won’t be able to see everything from the animated series in time. If you had to go to the essentials, you can settle for the following episodes. The Clone Wars makes Ahsoka an important character in Star Wars, and we thus discover her evolution from a naive child to a young woman forged by events. And the series says why she is absent from the prelogy.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Episode III brings a conclusion to the Clone Wars. Ahsoka isn’t seen in the film, but Anakin Skywalker’s fate is sealed — and so is the fate of the galaxy. The Jedi order is swept away. The Old Republic is collapsing. From the ashes, a Galactic Empire emerges. And the Dark Side of the Force begets Darth Vader.

Tales of the Jedi

A few episodes allow you to learn more about Ahsoka Tano, her past and her origins. The other half of season one isn’t of interest here, as it dwells on the story of Count Dooku. We thus see the birth and childhood of Ahsoka, her training as a padawan and her way of living in a galaxy dominated by the Galactic Empire.

Rebels

Again, it’s a rather long animated series: four seasons, consisting of 75 episodes. A viewing can be attempted in full, because several important characters will have their place in the Ahsoka series in live action. But by targeting, it is especially on seasons 2 and 4 that we must concentrate, in particular the end of the latter.

The Mandalorian

This is Ahsoka’s first appearance as a real actress. The Jedi plays a significant role in the episode, thus marking its debut in what should be called the “mandalorian-verse”, that is to say the interconnection between the series Ahsoka, The Mandalorian And The Boba Fett Book. A feature film should provide a general conclusion to these intertwined stories.

The Boba Fett Book

An episode is to be watched, because it develops the links between the protagonists: let us quote pell-mell Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, Din Djarin and Grogu. In fact, the whole sequence with these characters is almost a parenthesis in The Boba Fett Book. Small bonus point: we can notably witness an exchange between Luke and Ahsoka… who was the disciple of his father.

Do you have more time?

We can advise you to watch more episodes of Rebels, given the obvious links that there will be between the two series. same for me The Clone Wars. But on the film side, there is nothing really essential apart from episodes II and III. Unless you are interested in reading theories that are a bit pointed (be careful, there are big spoilers behind this link).

Ahsoka Tano is undoubtedly the work Star Wars the most anticipated of 2023. There is already a lot to say: about the color of certain lightsabers, about the future big bad of the saga, about a somewhat mysterious character (for those who have not seen Rebels).
