Before the Freebox V9, Orange discreetly launches its Livebox 7

With a simple press release sent early in the morning, Orange is launching its new Internet box, the Livebox 7. A small event as Free recently confirmed its intention to launch the Freebox V9 before the end of the year.

Clearly, the operators seem to have given themselves the word to develop their equipment. Free recently confirmed its wish to launch a new generation of Freebox before the end of the year, in a few weeks. From now on, it is Orange which is taking the lead by announcing its Livebox 7.

No major conference or virtual reality tour of the interior of the in-house box, but a simple press release to present the Livebox 7, already on the market since this morning.

More flow for some

According to the visuals available on the Orange website, the Livebox 7 uses the design of the Livebox 6, but improves certain characteristics. Thus, it is now XGS-PON compatible which allows, as with SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom, to move to a maximum download rate of 8 Gbit/s.

This is obviously available depending on the eligibility of your line, in other words for a few households in large cities only. In addition, Orange only offers this speed to professional customers, the general public will be limited to 5 Gbit/s. For the upload speed, practical for streaming or file sharing, it is 1 Gbit/s for individuals and 2 Gbit/s for professionals.

For the rest, we keep Wi-Fi 6E compatibility of the box as well as access to three Wi-Fi repeaters as part of the “Wi-Fi Serenity” option.

The Livebox 7 is available now in the Livebox Max Fiber offer at 57.99 euros per month. Orange offers a reduction in the subscription price for the first 6 months, where it drops to 39.99 euros per month, but be careful, the initial commitment is 12 months. You will therefore be forced to pay the full price for at least 6 months.

The good news is that Livebox 6 is becoming more accessible. It is now offered in the Livebox Up offer at 51.99 euros per month (33.99 euros per month for the first 6 months). In this case, you will have a speed of 2 Gbit/s going down and 600 Mbit/s going up and a single Wi-Fi 6 repeater.

Orange takes advantage of its press release to put a little layer on the environment that the operator highlights from its Livebox 5 without necessarily convincing us. In the case of the Livebox 7, it is a question of a 100% recycled and recyclable shell, as well as a sleep mode to reduce the consumption of the device.
