In the coming weeks, the two World Cup stations Adelboden and Wengen will be the focus of the ski circus.
Traditionally, the men’s World Cup stops in Switzerland at the beginning of the year: the Bernese Oberland Ski Weeks are coming up. A giant slalom (Saturday) and a slalom are planned in Adelboden (January 8th and 9th), in Wengen (January 13th to 16th) there are 2 runs (Friday, Saturday), a slalom (Sunday) and a new super G (Thursday) on the program.
Unlike a year ago, spectators are now admitted to the stand, of course in compliance with the Corona protective measures. Nothing should stand in the way of a ski festival on either the Chuenisbärgli or the Lauberhorn.

The OC in Adelboden was almost more concerned about the recently high temperatures. The weather forecasts, which announce cooler days, are just in time. «I hope that nature will still help us a little. Otherwise we just have to cool with the other aids we have, ”says slope manager Toni Hari.

Then the slope would have to be groomed more with water and salt. Although the route is currently not passable, everything should be ready by the weekend, says Hari. This is also how the world association FIS sees it, which had already given the race on Chuenisbärgli the green light on December 30th.
Wengen with an unexpected additional race
In Wengen, spectators can look forward to an additional competition. Without further ado, a Super-G was added to the program. This race had previously had to be canceled in both Lake Louise and Bormio. According to Wengen’s OC boss Urs Näpflin, the additional effort is limited. Otherwise, downhill training would simply have been scheduled on Thursday.

The start of the Super-G should take place below the Minschkante. It is important to Näpflin that the Super-G has its very own character, even if some classic elements such as Kernen-S, Brüggli or the Ziel-S will be part of it. There are simply hardly any alternatives there, according to Näpflin.
“But there is definitely not another run. You can clearly set different accents, depending on who will then set the course, ”says Näpflin. There is enough snow and space, the slopes are wider than in other years, for example in Langentrei or in Hanegg-Schuss.
So everything is set up for another ski spectacle in the Bernese Oberland, now the weather just has to play along.
