Belarus destroyed suspected drones fired from Ukraine, Lukashenko says

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Belarus’ air defense forces on Friday destroyed several targets, likely drones, over their territory that were fired from Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Saturday.

“Nearly ten” targets violated Belarusian airspace in the Mogilev region (east), bordering Russia, according to Alexander Lukashenko.

“At 19:04 (16:04 GMT), at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers and a distance of 6.5 kilometers, the air defense forces destroyed several targets on the territory of Belarus. During the night and this morning, searches are being conducted to identify what was destroyed,” the Belarusian president said in a video published by the state agency Belta.

Other targets were “transferred” to Russia before being destroyed near the Russian city of Yaroslavl.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian forces intercepted six drones in the Yaroslavl region.
