King Philippe and his family are changing holiday traditions

Those who were looking forward to maybe bumping into the Belgian royal family on the French island of Île d’Yeu this summer will be disappointed. Although King Philippe, 62, and Queen Mathilde, 49, usually spend their summer holidays there in their holiday home, the royals are apparently breaking with their tradition this year. According to eyewitness reports, they are currently on the popular Croatian island of Mljet, about 30 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik.

“I heard a voice that I knew. And I recognized the queen straight away,” reports a Belgian, who was also vacationing there, about his experience, to the daily newspaper “Het Laatste Nieuws”. Some snaps, which the tourist quickly snapped, prove that the casually dressed royal couple was accompanied by their children, Princess Elisabeth, 20, Prince Gabriel, 18, Prince Emmanuel, 16, and Princess Eléonore, 14. However, the palace is silent about the Belgian royal family’s unusual holiday destination: “We do not explain their private trips.”

Prince Christian: That will change for him now

In autumn, Prince Christian, 16, will not only start a new school year, but also a completely new everyday life. Now Christian is returning to his siblings, for whom he is a role model as the eldest. And Princess Mary experiences what it’s like to have two teenagers around again.
