Belgian Wout van Aert wins time trial

The recap of the stage

Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo) won the 30.8 kilometer time trial between Libourne and Saint-Emilion, his second victory on the Tour after the famous Mont Ventoux stage, which arrived in Malaucène. It is the fifth victory of his career on the Tour, the first in a time trial. He finished 4th in Laval in the first time trial of the Tour, won by Pogacar.

To complete the 30.8 kilometer distance, it was driven at an average of 51.5 km / h. He pushed back runner-up, Dane Kasper Asgreen, to 21 seconds, and Vingegaard to 32 seconds, and is one of the favorites for the Tokyo Games time trial, scheduled for next weekend.

Eighth fastest Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE) kept his yellow jersey before the last stage, in principle a simple formality until the arrival on the Champs-Elysées.

Pogacar did less well in the second time trial than his runner-up, Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who finished third in the stage, 32 seconds behind Van Aert. But the Slovenian still has a 5 min 20 sec lead over Vingegaard and 7 min 03 sec over Carapaz, third overall, before the last stage.

The time trial, under a summer sun in the famous vineyards of Libournais and Saint-Emilion, left the order of the top ten in the general classification unchanged. Frenchman Guillaume Martin secured his 8th place, and David Gaudu will finish 11th on the Champs on Sunday.
