Belgium is closing all its schools, is France at risk of following this path?

As a precaution, Belgium closed schools for spring break on March 29, instead of April 5. Parents must now organize themselves to look after their children and work. Could this scenario be repeated in France?

Faced with the outbreak of the epidemic in schools, the government refuses to close schools. However, many neighbors have already resorted to this decision to limit the damage, such as Belgium. Indeed, the Easter school holidays have been brought forward by one week.

To counter the spread of the virus, the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer announced new measures in force as of Monday.

  • A single case of covid would cause the closure of the class, in the 19 departments concerned by the confinement
  • A work stoppage for parents when they have to look after their children

Measures that could be insufficient as confided Emmanuel Macron, this Sunday, March 28, on Europe 1. The president claimed to do everything “to strengthen health protocols in order to keep schools open”, without excluding a possible closure of schools: “the complete closure of schools cannot be a taboo”, he asserted.

In fact, in just seven days, the number of students infected with covid-19 increased from 15,000 to more than 21,183 students, with an even more worrying contamination rate of 0.17% (against 0.13% there a week). According to the latest figures communicated by the Minister of National Education, 4,025 new cases were recorded among children attending school in 24 hours.
