Belgium: Lidl employee eats expired cake after feeling unwell, she is fired

The employee of a Lidl in Belgium was not feeling well and would have eaten an expired cake following her discomfort. According to several employees, she would have been dismissed following this gesture.

The controversy has angered the employees of Lidl in Jambes-Namur, accused of having dismissed an employee who had worked there for nineteen years.

According to the Belga press agency, quoted by Midi Libre, the employee would have consumed an expired biscuit after her discomfort in the store’s reserve.

The management of Lidl would not have taken into account the circumstances and would have dismissed the collaborator for “serious misconduct”.

The union wants the reinstatement of the employee

To protest against this decision, the employees of the site organized a blockade of the store this Monday, April 4. The union, which participated in this blockage, asked for the reinstatement of the employee.

Following this protest, an “agreement that satisfies all parties” was found, according to Julien Wathieu, spokesperson for Lidl Belgium. “The exact content of our agreement will not be disclosed for confidentiality reasons,” he said.
