BRUSSELS, June 16 (Reuters) – Pilots and cabin crew at Belgium’s national flag carrier, Brussels Airlines, gave strike notice on Thursday from June 23-25, when European Union leaders meet in summit in Brussels.

The unions of the Belgian subsidiary of Lufthansa denounce in particular the strong pressure of work, due to a lack of personnel.

Brussels Airlines was not immediately available for comment.

The company, which had laid off employees in 2020 as part of a restructuring linked to COVID-19, has not sufficiently reinforced its workforce since, according to Paul Buekenhout, of the ACV Puls union.

“The workload is too heavy,” he said. “In some cases, there are cabin crew doing 18 flights in five days. If you’re too tired, there’s a safety issue.” (Report Philip Blenkinsop; French version Alizée Degorce, edited by Sophie Louet)
