Ben Stiller traveled to Lemberg to see for himself the consequences of the war in Ukraine for many people.
Ben Stiller (56) campaigns for refugees from Ukraine. The actor visited the Ukrainian city of Lviv last Sunday as part of an action by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to talk to people “affected by the war”, as he explains in a video on Instagram.
Accordingly, the actor himself got an idea of the extent to which the war changed the lives of the refugees. “War and violence are destroying the lives of people all over the world. None of them chose to leave their homes,” said Stiller. Everyone has the right to seek security. “And this must be maintained for everyone,” emphasizes the actor at the end of the clip.
Another Instagram post shows Stiller hugging two small children. He explains that near the Medyka border in Poland he had the opportunity to meet several families who fled the war “leaving their loved ones without knowing when they can return home”. Together with the UNHCR he wants to work to “support the people”.
Many stars help
Ben Stiller isn’t the only star offering his support during the Ukraine war. Angelina Jolie (47) has been a UNHCR special envoy for a good two decades and also visited refugees and helpers in Lviv in May. Blake Lively (34) and Ryan Reynolds (45) have also been busy raising funds for UNHCR.
