PARIS (Reuters) – The appeal trial of former Elysée official Alexandre Benalla, which was to open this Friday before the Paris Court of Appeal, has been adjourned to June 9 for health reasons l preventing him from attending the hearing, reported several French media.

Alexandre Benalla was sentenced in November 2021 to three years in prison, two of which were suspended, for, in particular, “willful violence”.

The case began on May 1, 2018 with the broadcast on social networks of a video showing Alexandre Benalla, wearing a helmet and dressed as a police officer, attacking two demonstrators at Place de la Contrescarpe in Paris (5th arrondissement) , on the sidelines of the May Day demonstrations marked by violence by the “Black blocks”.

The revelation, two months later, by the newspaper Le Monde that it is a member of the presidency of the Republic caused a political storm to the highest peak of the State.
