A London court has convicted a man of breaking into Benedict Cumberbatch’s front garden and threatening the family.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch (46) and his family have been threatened by a man at their London home. The British “Daily Mail” reports that he entered the front yard and, armed with a knife, made wild threats. The case was therefore already heard in court and the man was sentenced on May 10th.

The family was at home at the time of the crime

The perpetrator is said to be a 35-year-old former chef at a luxury hotel. He kicked down the iron gate to the north London property, uprooted a plant in the front yard, spat into the intercom and finally ripped it off the wall with a fish knife. He is said to have made threats against the actor, his wife Sophie Hunter (45) and the three children. The family was in the house at the time. As the “Daily Mail” writes, the man screamed, among other things: “I know you moved here, I hope it burns down.” He is said to have previously announced to a shopkeeper that he intends to burn the actor’s house down to the ground.

Perpetrator is not allowed to approach the family for three years

After the incident, the man fled. However, the police were able to arrest him after finding DNA evidence on the intercom. He previously had prior convictions for theft, property crime, a public order offense and a drug offense. At the trial at Wood Green Crown Court in early May, he admitted his actions and was fined £250. He also received a three-year restraining order: He is not allowed to approach the famous family during this time.

The motives of the perpetrator are unclear, he did not defend himself in court. The “Daily Mail” is only now reporting because there was initially a reporting restriction. However, the newspaper took action against them.

In 2015, the actor bought the house in north London

Benedict Cumberbatch bought the five bedroom house in 2015. It is said to be worth around four million euros. Also in 2015, he married theater director Sophie Hunter. The couple have three sons, born in June 2015, March 2017 and January 2019.
