Benefits of health supplements fell in 2021

Inflated at the start of the health crisis by the lower use of care, the surpluses of complementary health insurance have melted by more than 90%, 49 million euros in 2021, according to a report published on Friday.

The Covid also hit the accounts of complementary health insurance. After a year 2020 marked by a double drop in contributions and benefits, with the key to a record of 637 million surpluses, the 2021 financial year was that of the backlash, indicates the DREES in its annual report on the sector.

The statistical service of social ministers reports a rebound of 3.1% in contributions, with 39.4 billion euros collected, while reimbursements have soared, with an increase of 6.1% to 31.6 billion linked a catch-up effect (…) in the consumption of medical care and goods.

Once the 20% management costs, regularly criticized by consumer associations, have been deducted, the 417 organizations in the sector have generated an almost nil technical result of 49 million euros, the lowest since 2011 – the date of the first studies of the Drees on the subject.
