Benjamin Castaldi has never hidden having money problems. If the columnist earned a lot of money when he worked on TF1, he subsequently experienced a real descent into hell. Thursday April 28, 2022, on the set of TPMP PeopleMatthieu Delormeau recalled: “You were extremely generous. At the time at TF1, you earned two million a year (…) You were paid monthly for taxes, 72,000 euros per month.“During the show, Benjamin Castaldi said:”I was wrong to say that I was happy to earn money, I was proud of my achievement. There’s no shame in succeeding, I didn’t steal the money from anyone. Except that on TV, they say they earn 20,000 euros a month when they earn 200. When people say that I squandered everything, it’s not true.“
Wishing to set the record straight, the father-of-four said: “I had bought an apartment, a country house… I had a heritage (…) I only kept goods that I didn’t know at the time were toxic goods. I had three million euros invested that I thought I would pay on time with a loan (…) When I sold my company, which I sold very well against all of my income (…) I did not anticipate the lifestyle I had and especially that from a huge salary every month, I returned to a salary which will seem gigantic to you but which was ten times lower than what I earned, 10 000 euros per month.“In full transparency, Benjamin Castaldi added:”When you’re on a liner, you’re in the middle of a divorce and you say to yourself, I have to stop the liner, it doesn’t stop in a hundred meters… You realize that you have to brake and I braked too late.“
Benjamin Castaldi: “I didn’t anticipate”
Facing the chroniclers, the ex-husband of Flavie Flament revealed that if he thought he had three million euros, his property was actually estimated at 250,000 euros. “I am partially responsible for it, because I did not anticipate“, he let go. If Benjamin Castaldi were in debt to the tune of 5 million, he would still have 2.5 million euros left to repay. The columnist added to conclude: “I was condemned, I repay what was assigned to my debts, which is normal.“
