Benjamin Castaldi reveals why he did not feel sad at the funeral of his grandmother Simone Signoret: Current Woman The MAG

Friday February 12, 2021, Faustine Bollaert received on the set of It starts today personalities known to his audience. Coming from lines of famous artists who have marked their times, his guests confided in their families of which they are proud. Among them, Vincent Fernandel the son of Franck Fernandel, Jonathan Dassin the son of Joe Dassin and Benjamin Castaldi. If the latter followed in his father's footsteps by establishing himself as one of the leading television hosts, it was his grandparents that he confided in. Descendants of the sacred monsters of French cinema Simone Signoret and Yves Montand, the chronicler of Do not touch My TV did not hide his pride in evoking their memory, live on France 2.

Author of the book I loved you so much. Montand and Signoret, a couple in history published on February 10, 2021 (published by Brooch), the host regretted that the story of his grandparents was lost. Thus, his work is "a tribute" for "bring them back to our century". "I realized with sadness that they had been forgotten a bit (…). My grandmother, we totally forgot her", he explained with sadness. If Benjamin Castaldi ensures that the two actors had a "significant imprint at the end of the twentieth century and I find this century incredible", he was not always aware of the success and the work of his ancestors.

Why the bereavement of Benjamin Castaldi was "easier to accept" ?

It was only when Simone Signoret died on September 30, 1985, that he, then aged fifteen, realized the talent of his legendary grandmother, whom he called "even". "It was a bit of my psychological problem. It was my drama", he confided. He then remembered "of the road" borrowed until "the family house where she died" with in the background the radio which evokes "the winners, the films, the awards, the Awards, the Baftas, the Palms, the performance prizes…". A "incredible career" which he suspected without really realizing it.

Sad to lose her, Benjamin Castaldi has made a surprising revelation about the funeral of Simone Signoret. "A funeral is normally sad, but when you have tens of thousands of people all over the procession (…) with 'Simone' signs, you cry less. Grieving is easier to accept". A confidence he continued: "We are both very proud, sad, but so proud. We say to ourselves: ‘All the same! Granny, that was somebody. Obviously, when I buried my other unknown grandmother and we were fifteen in the rain in November with the lead hat on our heads … it's much harder! " Although very proud of the actress and her journey, Benjamin Castaldi revealed never to go to his grave. "I am one of the people who thinks that people who die are not where they were buried", he concluded.
