Life is a long calm river ? Certainly not for Benoit Magimel ! Revealed at the age of 13 in this cult film from the 80s, in which he played the role of Maurice “Momo” Groseille, the talented actor quickly became a chameleon in the world of French cinema, via the wide variety of roles that are entrusted to him. But if he is one of the most prominent actors of his generation, his life also knows many twists and turns.
In March 2016, Benoit Magimel made headlines after hitting a 62-year-old woman at the wheel of her car and fleeing. Rolling without a driver’s license and tested positive for cocaine, the actor is judged for “unintentional injuries”, “hit and run” And “Drug abuse”. At the bar, he talks about his fight against drugs. “I do not have a festive consumption. I consume alone and with a lot of shame”, he admits, adding however “to heal” And “take substitution treatment”.
But despite his legal setbacks, the big family of cinema does not turn his back on him, quite the contrary. The same year, he received the César for best actor in a supporting role for the film Heads up. It’s certain : end of career Benoît Magimel, it’s not for now. The actor, who celebrated his 49th birthday on May 11, is also present this Thursday, May 18 at the 76th Cannes Film Festival for the climb of the steps of his new film, Rosalie.
