Beoplay EX: the new all-in-one headphones from Bang & Olufsen

Bang & Olufsen continues its breakthrough in the true wireless headphones market with the launch of Beoplay EX. Very similar to the Beoplay EQ in their operation, they differ from the latter in their design and their acoustic architecture.

The Beoplay EXs differ firstly from the Beoplay EQs in their design. Still developed by designer Thomas Bentzen, the new headphones from Bang & Olufsen adopt a stem design that notably allows the microphones (three in each earphone) to be brought closer to the user’s mouth in order to better pick up their voice during calls. B&O also says that it has reviewed the architecture of the part that rests in the hollow of the ear in order to increase the comfort and stability of the headphones so that they can be worn for long hours without discomfort. All dressed in plastic, they sport a shimmering part on the outside hiding a touch sensor allowing them to be controlled on the fly. The case is covered in brushed aluminum and its small size (6.6 x 2.8 x 4.8 cm) should allow it to be carried in a trouser pocket without too many problems.

The Beoplay EX display an IP57 certification demonstrating resistance to dust, perspiration, but above all to temporary immersion up to 1&nbspmin deep for 30&nbspmin. Inside is a 9.2&nbspmm speaker, the largest ever integrated by Bang & Olufsen in its true wireless headphones. The Danish brand also claims a significant gain in power with sustained bass and “an unbeatable level of detail for such a compact format”. The Beoplay EX are advertised with an autonomy of 8 hours without active noise reduction and 6 hours when it is engaged. The case should provide about 2.5 additional charges.

On the rest of the features, the Beoplay EX take up everything that made the salt of the Beoplay EQ. We thus find the essential functionality of dynamic active noise reduction which adapts according to external noises and of course a mode of listening to surrounding sounds. On the connectivity side, Bluetooth&nbsp5.2 is still on the program, as is compatibility with SBC, AAC and aptX Adaptive codecs as well as multipoint functionality. Beoplay EX are also compatible with Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for easy pairing on Android smartphones and Windows 10 PCs.

The Beoplay EX will be available in their blue color on May 5, gold on May 27 and black next June. The three colors will be sold at the same price, i.e. €399.
